Holyoke Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry Street, Holyoke. Unlike long term nursingMemory care available in a secured unit; Waiting list is 8 to 12 months; there are two 25 bed floors (total of 50 beds)Photo of Holyoke Soldiers Homehome care paid for by the VA or MassHealth / Medicaid, the Soldiers Homes that are funded by the state of Massachusetts do not look at the assets of a veteran or spouse.
Income is the only financial criteria that is considered when a veteran applies to the Soldiers' Home.
If the veteran is single, they look at gross monthly income, and charge a sliding rate of $0 to $930/month, including medications. They don’t touch the veteran's assets or property.
If the veteran is married, they look at gross monthly income, deduct $1500 from monthly income and then go back to the sliding scale of $0 - $930 / month ($0 to $30 per day) As of July, 2008, long term nursing home care at the Holyoke Soldiers Home has an 18 month waiting list.
There is also an independent living section at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home, which includes a nurse to help with medications. The veteran's family members are responsible to take the veteran to medical appointments outside the building. If the veteran needs hospital care, there would be a bed hold for 10 days at no charge.
